Recently, Sandy Ramirez, Darrah Leffler, and Charles Beckwith were sitting around a table at a popular diner in Brooklyn and started talking about movies related to fashion. Once they got rolling they started writing down this list of films. Some, like Valentino: The Last Emperor, are all about fashion, while others, like Pretty Woman or Gone With The Wind, are listed for a single defining scene. To find out why some of these were included you would really have to ask Charles or Sandy. While we were preparing this article, Boris Marberg added a vote for 1968’s The Thomas Crown Affair, and Cameron Carpenter suggested The Talented Mr. Ripley. Way’s influence can clearly be seen in her designs, featuring throwback patterns to ’40s Art Deco in Manhattan and Chinese motifs of good luck koi fish and even a dragonfly. The clothes themselves were intensely wearable and all featured hand-treated fabrics.
